Lilian Ng’ang’a, the former Machakos County First Lady, has publicly addressed her separation from renowned Kenyan rapper Julius Owino, popularly known as Juliani, putting an end to months of speculation surrounding their relationship.
In a candid statement released on Tuesday, Ng’ang’a confirmed the split, emphasizing her philosophy of letting go when the time is right.
“I do not hold on when it’s time to move on,” Ng’ang’a said, speaking to the press about the decision to part ways with the hip-hop artist.
The couple, who tied the knot in a private ceremony in February 2022, had been the subject of breakup rumors since late 2024, fueled by their apparent absence from each other’s social media and reports of differing life paths.
Ng’ang’a, previously married to Cabinet Secretary for Tourism Alfred Mutua before their high-profile separation in 2021, did not disclose specific reasons for the end of her marriage to Juliani.
However, she hinted at a natural progression in her personal journey, stating, “Change is the only constant, and I embrace it fully.”
The couple shares a son, Utheri, born in July 2022, though no details were provided regarding custody arrangements.
Juliani, known for hits like Utawala, has yet to comment publicly on the separation.
The pair’s relationship first captured public attention in September 2021, shortly after Ng’ang’a’s split from Mutua, when they confirmed their romance amid swirling media attention.
Their union had been seen by many as a symbol of resilience, weathering public scrutiny and past controversies.
Sources close to the couple suggest that their separation was amicable, with both parties focused on co-parenting their young son.
Ng’ang’a, an advocate for charity work through her Lillian Ng’ang’a Foundation, indicated she would continue to prioritize her personal growth and philanthropic efforts moving forward.
The announcement has sparked varied reactions online, with fans expressing both surprise and support for Ng’ang’a’s decision.
