Sudan opposition leader Yassir Arman arrested in Nairobi

Yassir Arman, a well-known leader of the Sudanese opposition and head of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-Revolutionary Democratic Current (SPLM-RDC), was arrested in Nairobi on Wednesday, according to sources.

The details about why he was arrested are not clear, and the Kenyan government has not made an official statement yet.

Arman is known for criticizing Sudan’s government and has been a strong advocate for democratic changes in the country during a time of political problems.

His arrest has caused worry among his supporters, who believe it may be related to his active role in fighting for change.

Witnesses say that Arman was taken by plainclothes officers in the early morning at a house in Nairobi. No charges against him have been announced, and attempts to get comment from Kenyan police were unsuccessful.

The SPLM-RDC shared a short message on social media, condemning the arrest and calling for Arman’s immediate release. They stated, “This is a serious attack on free speech and the rights of Sudanese people to speak out for justice.”

Arman’s arrest happens during a tense time in Sudan, where different groups are struggling for control after years of conflict and political unrest.

Experts believe that this situation could make it even harder to stabilize Sudan’s difficult political situation.

International human rights groups are asking for clarity about Arman’s detention and are urging Kenyan authorities to respect his legal rights. The situation is still unfolding, and more information is expected to come out soon.
