Hanifa Adan: Sifuna ‘I Must Go’ Released on Bail

Titus Sifuna, a 22-year-old social media influencer known for his ‘I Must Go’ X account, was released on a Ksh 100,000 cash bail or a Ksh 1 million bond on Friday following his arrest for allegedly impersonating President William Ruto.

Sifuna’s detention, which lasted several days without formal charges, has ignited widespread debate over legal rights and the government’s crackdown on social media activities.

Sifuna, whose X account has gained notoriety for its bold political commentary, was taken into custody earlier this week.

Authorities accused him of violating laws related to impersonation, though the delay in presenting formal charges raised concerns among legal experts and human rights advocates.

The case has spotlighted tensions between free expression online and governmental efforts to regulate digital platforms.

Activist Hanifa Adan said, ” Titus Sifuna is free. I’m appalled at how
DCI can twist the law and get away with it all the time. They kept him in for 7 days with no trial.

“No charge sheet. And a bail of 100K. A huge thank you to the defenders coalition for their help always! They paid the 100K bail. Asanteni sana. They intended to keep him in for 7 days to torture him. He’s not even speaking or smiling.”

Mother and joyful journalist.
