Governor Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir has confirmed that all preparations are in place for the controlled demolition of a nine-storey building deemed unsafe in Mombasa.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, as authorities finalised efforts to ensure the operation proceeds smoothly.
According to Governor Nassir, emergency response measures have been fully activated, with 17 ambulances positioned on standby to address any potential incidents.
Additionally, an adequate number of fire trucks have been deployed to the site to bolster safety precautions.
The demolition, which targets a structure posing risks to residents and surrounding areas, is part of ongoing efforts to enforce building safety standards in the coastal city.
The current situation on Digo Road, Mombasa, ahead of the demolition of an 11-storey sinking building, shows no traffic or vehicles along that route from Buxton to Marikiti.

The 9-storey building that had undergone a partial collapse last week in Mombasa is now being demolished today.
They plan to do it through controlled explosions, and evacuation has been done over a 1.2km radius for 8 hours.
It appears the cause was adding extra floors, thus additional weight, than the designed foundation could bear.
There were professionals, and I would like to know if they approved those additions or if they were actively involved in supervision.
The building is estimated to have cost the owner Sh100M, and its foundation was not steady and could not hold the load, as it had more straight beams rather than a concrete flat base, according to sources.
