Paris Saint-Germain secured a dramatic victory over Arsenal in their UEFA Champions League knockout clash, advancing at the Gunners’ expense.
The match, a pulsating affair, left Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta visibly emotional, while PSG boss Luis Enrique took a swipe at the English Premier League.
Arteta, speaking post-match, revealed the devastation in the Arsenal dressing room.
“Today I saw how much they want it because our players were in tears,” he said, reflecting on the gut-wrenching loss.
Claiming his side was the better team over the two legs, Arteta added, “The best team lost, in my view… especially after 160 minutes. I’m saying that, and they [PSG bench] are saying that because they just told me.”
The defeat marks another setback for Arsenal in their quest for European glory, with Arteta’s side unable to capitalise on their moments of dominance.
PSG, however, showcased their clinical edge, with key contributions from their star-studded lineup sealing the win.
Luis Enrique, never one to shy away from bold statements, took the opportunity to taunt the Premier League.
“Beating all four Premier League teams? Well… the League of Farmers, know? We are the league of farmers,” he quipped, referencing PSG’s victories over English sides in this season’s competition.
The result propels PSG into the next round of the Champions League, while Arsenal now turn their focus to domestic competitions.
Arteta vowed his team would regroup, stating, “We’ll come back stronger. This hurts, but it’s fuel for us.”
