Authorities in Nakuru have apprehended a man posing as a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) major, following a sting operation by local police.
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was arrested on Wednesday evening after allegedly defrauding multiple individuals while masquerading as a high-ranking military officer.
According to Nakuru County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi, the suspect was found to possess counterfeit KDF identification documents and military attire.
“We received complaints from residents about an individual soliciting money under the guise of offering KDF recruitment slots,” Ndanyi stated.
“Our investigations led to his arrest, and we are now probing the extent of his fraudulent activities.”
The suspect is believed to have targeted jobless youth, promising them positions in the KDF in exchange for substantial payments. Several victims have come forward, with some claiming to have paid thousands of shillings to the impostor.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns over fraudulent schemes targeting vulnerable job seekers in the region.
The suspect is currently in custody at Nakuru Central Police Station, awaiting arraignment on charges of impersonation and fraud.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals claiming to represent government institutions.
Investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspect was working alone or as part of a larger syndicate.
