A senior assistant chief in Gatundu South sub-county died by suicide on April 30, 2025, hours after going into hiding following allegations of s6xually assaulting two underage boys on April 20, 2025.
The body of the administrator was discovered at his matrimonial home, prompting police to close the assault case, leaving the victims without justice.
Gatundu Police Commander Jane Makena confirmed that the suspect’s wife reported the incident after finding the house locked from the inside upon returning from a clinic.
Unable to gain entry, she alerted her brother-in-law, who broke the lock. The pair found the assistant chief’s body hanging from the roof. Police officers were dispatched to the scene and transferred the body to Kenyatta University Funeral Home for further examination.
According to Makena, the assistant chief had gone into hiding shortly after the assault allegations surfaced.
“The case is now closed due to the suspect’s death, a sad turn of events as the victims will not get justice,” Makena said, urging Kenyans to report such incidents promptly to ensure accountability.
The allegations stem from an incident on April 20, 2025, when one victim, accompanied by two friends, visited the administrator’s homestead to deliver milk.
The assistant chief allegedly invited the boys into a separate house, offered them alcohol, and waited until two of the boys left to tend to a recently circumcised peer.
The remaining boy, intoxicated, later regained consciousness at home and was found bleeding profusely. A medical examination confirmed he had been s6xually violated, leading his family to file a report at Gatundu Police Station.
That same night, the assistant chief allegedly followed the other two boys to a neighbouring homestead.
One of the boys recounted how the administrator cornered him, enquired about his circumcision status, groped him, and ordered him to lie on a bed. The boy resisted, pushed the suspect aside, and fled.
The victims’ parents told police that the assistant chief attempted to bribe them to silence the matter, but they proceeded with the report. The administrator’s subsequent disappearance delayed investigations until his death.
The incident has sparked outrage in Gatundu South, with community members expressing grief over the lack of justice for the victims. Police have reiterated their commitment to addressing s6xual violence and encouraged timely reporting to prevent such outcomes.
