Two lovers, Alice Achieng Ochieng and Macdonald Ochieng Owino, were arraigned before Mombasa’s Justice Wendy Kagendo on April 30, 2025, charged with the brutal murder and dismemberment of 26-year-old Jane Achieng in Likoni, Mombasa County.
The suspects, accused of conspiring to kill Jane, whose mutilated body was found dumped in a sack, are currently in custody at Shimo La Tewa Prison awaiting formal murder charges on May 15, 2025.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that Jane was romantically involved with Macdonald, a club manager in Likoni, which allegedly fueled the motive for the crime.
For over two months, detectives pieced together evidence of the events leading to Jane’s death in Timbwani, Likoni, culminating in the arrest of the two suspects.
According to DCI investigations, on February 4, 2025, Alice allegedly sent Jane’s photo to a contact in Kwale with intent to harm her, later forwarding the same image to Macdonald with the message, “Rest in peace.”
Evidence shows Alice lured Jane to a meeting at a local club where Macdonald worked. That night, the trio spent time at Alice’s residence, where Jane reportedly prepared dinner.
On February 6 and 7, Macdonald did not return home, prompting Alice to message his employer, complaining that Jane’s presence had strained their relationship.
On February 8, Likoni residents discovered Jane’s dismembered body near a residential area, with some body parts still missing.
The gruesome discovery shocked the community, and Jane’s family continues to seek justice. The DCI’s findings point to a premeditated act, with Alice and Macdonald allegedly conspiring to eliminate Jane.
The suspects appeared calm during their court appearance, but the case has sparked outrage among locals demanding accountability.
The court remanded the accused in custody as investigations continue to locate Jane’s missing body parts and finalize evidence. The case is set to resume on May 15, 2025, when formal murder charges will be filed.
