A Somali man named Fitsu Haile Michael and a Kenyan man named Jaafer Rahow Salat appeared in court at Makadara on April 30, 2025. They are facing serious charges related to human trafficking.
The two men are accused of working with others to traffic four Somali people, including two children, from Nairobi to the Busia border to exploit them.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects tricked the victims with false promises and took them away with the intention of using them for exploitation.
Prosecutor Brenda Nandwa explained that the victims were lured under false pretences, showing how cruel the trafficking operation was.
The accused also faces additional charges for pretending to be someone else using fake identity cards.
In front of Senior Principal Magistrate Joseph Karanja, both men pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The court has scheduled the next meeting of the case for May 6, 2025, as investigations are ongoing to find out more about the trafficking operation.
These arrests are part of a larger effort by Kenyan authorities to fight against human trafficking, with the DCI promising to work hard to break up such networks.
The case highlights how vulnerable minors and foreign individuals can be to trafficking schemes in the area.
