Chelsea Football Club has officially announced the signing of Portuguese midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP for a transfer fee of €22.3 million.
The 20-year-old joins the Blues with immediate effect, with his contract set to run until June 2033.
The deal, finalized in March 2025, was kept under wraps until the official announcement.
Essugo, a highly rated talent from Sporting’s academy, is known for his versatility, defensive tenacity, and ability to dictate play in midfield.
“Chelsea is delighted to welcome Dario to the club. His energy and potential will be a great addition to our squad,” a club spokesperson said in a statement.
Essugo, who has represented Portugal at various youth international levels, made 42 appearances for Sporting, scoring one goal and providing two assists.
His arrival bolsters Chelsea’s midfield options as they aim to compete for domestic and European honours.
