MP Millie Odhiambo Laments Loss of Constituent in CBD Shoots

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo expressed profound grief and frustration in Parliament on Tuesday, revealing that a young man fatally shot by police during protests in Nairobi’s Central Business District was from her Suba constituency in Homa Bay County.

The victim, identified as Eli Joshua, was reportedly vending face masks when he was caught in the chaos.

Speaking during a National Assembly session, an emotional Odhiambo condemned the incident as part of a troubling pattern of violence against her constituents.

“Madam Speaker, it would be careless on my part if I don’t say that I have just learnt that the young man I am talking about is from Homa Bay and Suba,” she said, adding, “Homa Bay, we are tired of mourning.”

The shooting occurred amid protests honouring blogger Albert Ojwang, who died in police custody, with demonstrators rallying against alleged police brutality.

Odhiambo criticised the authorities, questioning, “If we are all being killed, who will remain in Homa Bay?”

She referenced other high-profile deaths from the region, including Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were and Albert Ojwang, urging leaders to stop endorsing violence.

The MP’s remarks sparked reactions online, with netizens reflecting public outrage and support for her call to end police brutality.
