Napoli have escalated negotiations with AC Milan to secure the transfer of United States international Yunus Musah, with discussions gaining momentum ahead of the summer transfer deadline, sources confirmed on Tuesday.
The Serie A champions, under the guidance of head coach Antonio Conte, are keen to finalise the deal swiftly for the 22-year-old midfielder, who has emerged as a top target to bolster Napoli’s squad for the 2025-26 season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, negotiations between the two Italian clubs are “already well underway,” with further contacts scheduled today to iron out details.
Napoli have proposed a deal starting at €20 million plus bonuses, though Milan are holding out for a fee closer to €25 million, reflecting Musah’s potential despite his inconsistent performances at San Siro.
Fans indicate that talks are at an advanced stage, with a potential agreement in sight.
Conte, a long-time admirer of Musah’s versatility and energy, has personally approved the transfer, viewing the American as an ideal fit for his dynamic midfield setup.
Musah, who joined Milan from Valencia in a €21 million deal in 2023, has made 80 appearances for the Rossoneri, registering five assists but struggling to cement a consistent role under multiple coaches.
With four years remaining on his contract, Musah is reportedly enthusiastic about the move to Napoli, where personal terms are not expected to be an issue.
The push for Musah comes as Napoli aims to build on their 2024-25 Serie A title success under Conte, who sees the midfielder’s athleticism and ability to play multiple roles as key to maintaining the club’s competitive edge.
Milan, meanwhile, is open to negotiations, having listed Musah as transferable due to his underwhelming performances and fan criticism during his two-year stint.
As talks progress, Napoli are also exploring other targets, but Musah remains a priority, with Conte’s vision driving the club’s ambition to secure the deal before the transfer window closes.
