Ruto Orders Governors Register Health Facilities with SHA
President William Ruto has directed all 47 county governors to ensure that public health facilities under their jurisdictions are registered with the Social Health Authority (SHA) to access government reimbursements and funding.
Speaking during a health sector briefing in Nairobi on Thursday, Ruto emphasized the urgency of compliance, noting that unregistered facilities risk losing critical financial support.
āPrivate hospitalsāalmost all of themāare already registered. The problem is with public facilities; many are yet to be registered, which is unfortunate,ā Ruto stated.
āIf a facility is not registered, it doesnāt benefit from refunds or funding. My request to governors is: instruct your CECs and COs to ensure all facilities are registered and make it a KPI for the health department.ā
The directive comes as the government rolls out the SHA to streamline healthcare funding and improve access to services. Rutoās remarks highlight a gap in public facility compliance, which could hinder the programās success.
Netizens show mixed sentiments, with some praising the push for universal healthcare access, while others criticize counties for delays in registration.
Governors have been urged to prioritize this as a key performance indicator (KPI) for their health departments, with the National Treasury set to monitor compliance.
The move is expected to intensify efforts to align public health facilities with the SHA framework, ensuring equitable distribution of healthcare resources across Kenya.
President Ruto directs governors to ensure all public health facilities are registered with SHA, so as to not miss out on government reimbursements.
