Political commentator and staunch supporter of President William Ruto, Cosmo Choy, has issued a stark warning about the president’s dwindling popularity as the 2027 general election looms.
In a candid Facebook video, Choy admitted that Ruto’s re-election bid faces significant hurdles due to widespread voter discontent and shifting political tides across Kenya.
Choy, known for his unwavering loyalty to Ruto, revealed that a majority of Kenyans have turned against the president.
“The majority of the people are against the president, let me say as his person. If we were to win in 2027, we must do something,” he stated, emphasising the urgency for strategic changes within Ruto’s camp.
Highlighting the challenges, Choy acknowledged the enduring support for opposition leader Raila Odinga, noting that even Odinga’s strong base in Luo Nyanza would not guarantee an easy victory for Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“The ground is very hostile. If we rely on the votes from Luo Nyanza, we must look for new aspirants to solicit votes,” he advised.
During his nationwide tours, Choy encountered personal support from voters who urged him to run for office independently, distancing themselves from Ruto and the UDA. “I have a hard time looking for votes on behalf of Ruto.
They tell me I should look for my own votes and not those of Ruto. The ground is very harsh, let the truth be said,” he confessed.
Choy also took aim at some of Ruto’s allied lawmakers, accusing them of prioritizing personal financial interests over loyalty to the president’s agenda.
“They are helping the president pass bills in parliament, which is good, but they are after their stomachs. In 2026, many will run away from Ruto so as to survive. I’m speaking the truth,” he predicted.
