A fatal shooting in Nairobi’s Thome and Roysambu neighbourhoods has sparked outrage and protests after reports surfaced alleging that the son of a senior government official, purportedly named Lagat Ryan Kimutai, was involved in the murder of a 23-year-old man on June 18, 2025.

The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a heated disagreement, has ignited a firestorm on X, with Kenyans demanding justice and questioning whether the law applies equally to all.

Witnesses told local media that the argument quickly turned deadly. “It happened so fast. One minute they were arguing, and the next minute, we heard a loud bang,” said an unnamed resident near the scene on Thika Road.

The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was transported to City Mortuary, per sources cited by @MukuruSPA on X.

Shockingly, no arrests have been made, despite reports that police were promptly notified. Locals allege the suspected shooter, identified by some on X as the son of embattled Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, remains at large.

“If it was a normal citizen who pulled the trigger, they would be in jail by now,” a concerned resident told The Standard, echoing sentiments shared widely online.

The lack of immediate action has fuelled accusations of impunity, with @Asswetooo noting small protests erupting in Roysambu as residents demand accountability.

The incident comes amid heightened scrutiny of Kenya’s police and government officials, following the controversial death of blogger Albert Ojwang in custody, which also implicated Eliud Lagat.

Posts on X, including one from @kingpin_ke77, link the shooting to broader concerns about unchecked power, with users questioning whether the official’s status is shielding his son.

Human rights groups and activists are calling for a swift, transparent investigation. As the victim’s family mourns, Kenyans are rallying for equal application of the law, vowing to keep pressure on authorities until justice is served.
