Nairobi lockdown as saba saba 2025 protests start

On Monday, July 7, 2025, police closed major roads leading to the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD) starting at 6 AM because of the Saba Saba protests that were expected later in the day.

As a result, drivers are having a lot of trouble getting around because police set up many roadblocks on important routes into and out of the city.

These roadblocks are affecting both private cars and public transport, leaving many people unable to get to their destinations.

The roads that were closed by 6:30 AM include:

  • Thika Road: Roysambu, Guru Nanak
  • Wayaki Way: Kangemi Flyover
  • Mombasa Road: GM Motors
  • Ngong Road: City Mortuary Roundabout
  • Valley Road: DOD & Integrity Center
  • Juja Road: Pangani Interchange
  • Lang’ata Road: Near T-Mall

There is a heavy police presence in these areas:

  • Uhuru Highway/Kenyatta Avenue Roundabout
  • Uhuru Highway/Haile Selassie Roundabout
  • Moi Avenue
  • Parliament Road & Harambee Avenue
  • Kenyatta Avenue
  • Regular patrols along Ronald Ngala Street and River Road

Roads near Parliament, City Hall, and State House are completely blocked, with many anti-riot police officers present.
