Anaomba! How boss begged for money after years of mockery

I spent three years working for one of Nairobi’s leading corporations, but rather than developing, I was constantly ashamed. My supervisor, whom I first held in the highest regard, turned into my worst tormentor. He often reminded me that “without me, you’re nothing,” stopped my advancements, and made fun of my attire in meetings.

He openly chuckled and remarked, “This one will retire here as a junior officer,” at a staff meeting, as I recall. I wanted to be swallowed by the ground while everyone laughed. He undermined me more and more the harder I tried to work. He even handed his favourites my project ideas and had me handle all the grunt work without giving me any credit. My wife continued questioning me at home about why we were still having trouble making our rent payments after all these years. My kids began to enquire as to why their peers wore better shoes.
