Sen. Boni Khalwale to be kicked out of UDA for backing Panyako in Malava

In a show-cause letter, the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) Party accused Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale of treason and egregious behaviour for purportedly endorsing a rival candidate in the November 27, 2025, Malava parliamentary by-election.

Charles Njenga, the chairperson of the UDA Disciplinary Committee, signed a letter dated October 9, 2025, in which the party claimed to have received details and proof that Khalwale had supported Seth Panyako, a candidate for Malava’s Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), rather than David Ndakwa, the UDA candidate.

The governing party said that this was against the party’s goals and constitution, which supported his Senate candidacy.

Part of the letter states, “Your actions clearly show loyalty to another political party and constitute conduct unbecoming and disloyalty to the United Democratic Alliance Party.”

Within 14 days, Khalwale was instructed by the committee to provide an explanation for why disciplinary action against him was not warranted.

The party also said that he would have the right to appear before the committee alone or with an advocate, and that official disciplinary actions may follow depending on his answer.

Less than a week has passed since Khalwale pledged to back Panyako, a decision that raised doubts among detractors about whether he had cut ties with UDA.

“We are grateful to Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, and Rigathi Gachagua for their support. ” In Malava Constituency on October 8, 2025, Senator Boni Khalwale said, “Wamalwa, sikia, kuanzia leo ambia wenzako, you will never walk alone, kwa sababu uko na bullfighter.”

After the late MP Malulu Injendi passed away while undergoing treatment in Nairobi in February 2025, the Malava seat fell vacant.
