The Tanzania Army Chief warns protesters against breaking the law amid election unrest. The Chief of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF), General Jacob John Mkunda, has issued a stern warning to protesters breaking the law amid demonstrations related to elections led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Speaking at a press conference on Thursday evening, October 30, 2025, General Mkunda said the military, in collaboration with other security agencies, has brought the situation under control and continues to strengthen security across the country.
He urged citizens to respect the rule of law, stressing that anyone engaging in criminal activities must cease immediately to avoid unnecessary harm to society and the nation.
General Mkunda added that should criminal acts continue, the TPDF, together with other security forces, will take appropriate action in accordance with the law.
“The Tanzania People’s Defence Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, has brought the situation under control and continues to strengthen security across the country.
“Fellow citizens, let it be remembered that our country is governed according to the rule of law, which must be observed and respected.
“All individuals involved in criminal activities should stop immediately to prevent unnecessary harm to society and the nation. Should these acts continue, the TPDF, together with other security agencies, will take appropriate action in accordance with the law,” General Mkunda said.
