Goons Attack MP Peter Kaluma in Kasipul During By-Election

During the current by-elections, a crowd in Kasipul assaulted Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma. The legislator was reportedly assaulted while serving as an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party observer at the Agoro Sale polling station.

The legislator claims that his security, who was also hurt in the incident, misplaced his gun in the confusion.

The MP was encircled by an armed crowd who assaulted and attacked him, injuring him, according to images that bana.co.ke was able to collect.

Following the event, Kaluma was bleeding from his head, and the polling station’s medical staff hurried to give him first aid. Additionally, polling site police officers stepped in to control the incident.

Following the event, Kaluma claimed that Phillip Aloko, an independent candidate running for the Kasipul MP seat, was connected to the thugs.

Such assaults, according to the politician, are meant to discourage voters from casting ballots in the by-elections.

We are such little creatures that we would have fought them back, but the way to finish is not to do so. They want you to fight with them, so don’t. Kaluma said, “They don’t want people to come and vote.”

“I want to encourage people to cast their ballots. These individuals aim to dissuade others from casting ballots. We will battle on the ballot, not in person,” he said.

The incident happened shortly after commotion broke out at Siakago Social Hall in Mbeere North, when Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi and his group challenged Thuku Kiruga, Leonard Wa Muthende’s agent, at the voting place.

Videos obtained by bana.co.ke show Muturi chasing Kiruga away after accusing him of wearing UDA party colours, which he said was illegal.
