Delegates: Wetang’ula Used Us as Ford Kenya Goons Without Pay

Former Ford Kenya Bungoma branch delegates have released a bombshell video claiming National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula recruited them for years as party enforcers with a specific mandate to vandalise opponents’ vehicles during campaigns but never paid the promised dues.

In the six-minute video clip that surfaced on TikTok and WhatsApp groups on Tuesday night, the former constituency delegates narrated how they were hand-picked by Wetang’ula’s close aides between 2016 and 2022 to break vehicles “pasua magari” of rival candidates whenever campaigns turned rowdy in Bungoma County.

Speaking in Luhya with occasional Swahili, the lead delegate, a former youth leader in Sirisia, said, “Tulikuwa tunapewa kazi na Wetang’ula moja kwa moja kupasua magari ya wale wanaopinga Ford Kenya.

Tulifanya hiyo kazi 2017, 2022, na hata hii ya juzi tu. Sasa tumechoka. Hatukulipa hata shilingi moja. Tunataka Wetang’ula atulipe ama tutasema yote.” “Tumepasua magari ya kina Wajackoya, Eugene and wengine.”

They displayed scars allegedly sustained during clashes at Webuye and Kimilili rallies and produced handwritten lists they claim were payment schedules bearing the signature of a senior Ford Kenya official.

The group says they were promised KSh 3,000 per vehicle damaged plus a KSh 500 daily allowance during the campaign period but only received “soda na mkate” on a few occasions.

They further allege that Wetang’ula’s personal assistant, known as “Captain”, would call them directly the night before major rallies with instructions on which vehicles to target, especially those belonging to Musikari Kombo’s faction in 2017 and the DAP-K team led by Wafula Wamunyinyi in 2022. “Tulipasua gari ya Wamunyinyi Webuye 2022 na ikachukua wiki mbili kukaa garage. Bado hatujalipwa,” one delegate claimed.

The video has caused panic in Bungoma political circles. Local official John Chikati termed the allegations “cheap blackmail from known drunkards who were chased from the party for indiscipline.”

He added, “These are the same people who were demanding money to stop heckling our candidates. We recorded them and handed evidence to police. Now they want to tarnish the Speaker’s name because Christmas is coming.”

However, several independent sources confirmed to bana.co.ke that similar groups existed under different party heavyweights across Western Kenya.

A retired police officer who served in Bungoma during the 2022 elections said on condition of anonymity, “We arrested youths with pangas and stones hiding near rally venues. When we asked, they said they were sent by ‘Mheshimiwa’ to protect the party. We released them after calls from above.”

The delegates have given Wetang’ula seven days to send KSh 4.8 million they claim is owed for “services rendered” or they will release names, dates, vehicle registration numbers, and even photos taken next to the damaged cars. “Hatutaki vita. Tunataka tu haki yetu. Kama hakuna pesa, aombe radhi kwa kamera,” they concluded.

As the video continues to spread faster than a Bungoma bodaboda, one question now dominates tea tables from Chwele to Malaba: how many more “official goons” are still on political payrolls waiting for their Christmas bonus that may never come?
