Conor Gallagher Completes Tottenham Medical in £35m Deal

Conor Gallagher has completed his medical with Tottenham Hotspur. The England midfielder is now waiting for the official announcement of his move from Atlético Madrid. Reports say the deal is worth around £35 million, or €40 million. Atlético will get most of that money up front.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano broke the news earlier today. He said Gallagher passed his medical tests at Tottenham’s training ground. The club plans to confirm his signing soon. They might announce another new player at the same time – 19-year-old Brazilian left-back Souza from Santos.
Tottenham moved fast on this transfer. They beat Aston Villa, who also wanted Gallagher. Villa looked at a loan deal with an option to buy, but Spurs offered a permanent transfer. That convinced Atlético to sell. Gallagher will sign a contract until 2031, five and a half years.
The 25-year-old joined Atlético from Chelsea in 2024 for about £33 million. He did well at first, but playing time dropped this season. He started only a few La Liga games.
Sources close to the player say he wants regular football again. A return to the Premier League made sense for him. He still hopes to get back into the England squad for the World Cup.
Tottenham needs someone like Gallagher right now. Their midfield has struggled with injuries. Rodrigo Bentancur is out for months after hamstring surgery. Other players have missed games too.
Manager Thomas Frank pushed hard for this signing. He even called Gallagher personally to explain his plans. Frank told him he would play often and fit the team’s style.
Gallagher brings energy and running. He presses high and breaks up play. He can carry the ball forward and chip in with goals. Fans remember his time at Chelsea, where he came through the academy and became a key player. He had good loan spells at clubs like Crystal Palace too.
This isn’t the only deal Tottenham are close to finishing. Souza, the young defender from Santos, is also in London for tests. Spurs agreed a fee of about £13 million for him. The teenager has impressed in Brazil and could compete for the left-back spot. He might back up Destiny Udogie or play in different roles.
Both signings show Tottenham want to strengthen quickly. The team sits in the bottom half of the table after a tough run. They are out of the domestic cups already. Frank faces pressure, but the club backs him with these moves. Adding Gallagher could give the squad a lift straight away.
Atlético Madrid make a small profit on Gallagher after 18 months. They paid Chelsea a similar amount back in 2024. The Spanish side might use the money to bring in replacements.
Fans seem excited about the news. Many see Gallagher as the kind of player Tottenham have missed – someone who fights for every ball. If the announcement comes soon, he could even play in the next league game.
Souza’s arrival would add youth to the defence. At 19, he has time to grow into the Premier League.
These two deals could change things for Tottenham this season. Gallagher knows English football well. He won’t need much time to settle. The official statements should come in the next day or two. After that, attention turns to how they perform on the pitch.
