Octopizzo Announces Bid for Kibra MP Seat in 2027

Rapper Henry Ohanga, better known as Octopizzo, has announced his intention to run for the Kibra parliamentary seat in the 2027 general elections. He made the declaration during a rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nairobi on January 18, 2026. The artist said he is ready to challenge the current MP, Peter Orero, and bring change to the constituency.

Octopizzo spoke to a large crowd at the open-air venue. He stood on stage with a microphone, dressed in his usual casual style. “I am coming for that seat. Kibra needs new energy,” he told supporters.

Cheers filled the grounds. Many in the audience waved phones and recorded the moment. Octopizzo has deep ties to Kibra. He grew up in the area and often speaks about its challenges, like housing, jobs and youth opportunities.

The rapper rose to fame in the early 2010s with hits like “Iverson” and “Oliel”. His music mixes hip-hop with social messages. He talks about life in the estates, education and staying away from crime.

Octopizzo has built schools and supported talents in Kibra through his foundation. Fans see him as someone who understands the ground. This move into politics surprises some but fits his community work.

Peter Orero won the seat in a 2022 by-election for ODM. He replaced Ken Okoth, who passed away in 2019. Orero focuses on health and education projects. He has not commented on Octopizzo’s announcement yet.

ODM holds strong in Kibra, a key Nairobi constituency with many low-income residents. The party backed Raila Odinga for years there.

Octopizzo has not said which party he will use. Some guess independent or a new group. He might join a coalition. Kenyan celebrities have run for office before. Musicians like Jaguar and politicians from entertainment draw crowds but face mixed results. Voters often want experience in governance.

The rally drew hundreds. Youth turned up in large numbers. They chanted his song lines and cheered the bid. Octopizzo promised to fight for better housing and jobs if elected. He said leaders forget Kibra after votes. “Time for one of us to speak for us,” he added.

Reactions online came quick. Posts on X and Facebook showed support. “Octopizzo for MP! He knows our struggles,” one user wrote. Others doubted. “Music is different from parliament,” another said. Debates grew on if artists make good leaders.

Kibra has a history of active politics. Protests and by-elections mark it. Residents face flooding, poor roads and unemployment. Any candidate needs to address those daily issues.

Octopizzo keeps posting about the bid. He shared rally photos and thanked fans. More events could follow to build support. 2027 is far, but campaigns start early in Kenya.

This announcement adds colour to Nairobi politics. A rapper in the race brings new faces. Voters will decide if his voice fits parliament.

Orero stays the incumbent for now. He works on constituency projects. The challenge sets up an interesting contest. Kenya sees more young and celebrity candidates. They appeal to voters tired of old names. Success varies. Octopizzo’s fame helps visibility. Delivery on promises matters most.

The rally ended peacefully. The crowd dispersed slowly. Kamukunji Grounds hosts many political events. This one stood out with music and youth energy. Octopizzo heads back to studio and community work. The political path begins. Kibra watches closely.
