Wamuchomba Accuses Gachagua of Misusing KSh 600M US Funds

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of misusing over KSh 600 million he allegedly received during a trip to the United States. She claimed the money came from Kenyans in the diaspora.

Wamuchomba said Gachagua used it to buy two bulletproof vehicles worth KSh 65 million each, install a sound and jammer system, and clear personal and family debts. She added that he did not help supporters who got injured or had vehicles damaged while defending him during political events.

Wamuchomba made the statements in a long Facebook post on January 15, 2026. She wrote about rallies in places like Ol Kalou and Naivasha, where police clashed with crowds. Supporters faced tear gas and arrests.

Vehicles got damaged in the chaos. Wamuchomba said Gachagua never offered to repair them or support those hurt. She called it selfish. The MP said the money could have helped those who stood with him during tough times.

The US trip happened last year. Gachagua visited several cities to meet Kenyans living abroad. He spoke about government policies and asked for support. Reports at the time said he raised funds for community projects and political causes. Wamuchomba now says the amount went over KSh 600 million. She did not give proof like receipts or names. But she spoke as someone who once backed him closely.

Wamuchomba and Gachagua were allies during his impeachment in 2024. She defended him in Parliament and at public events. Things changed after he lost the position. Gachagua started the Democratic Congress Party as a new home for Mount Kenya voters.

Wamuchomba refused to join. She stays with the United Democratic Alliance. Earlier this month she accused him of trying to force her into DCP through threats and insults. Gachagua denied it. He said her own voters want her to switch for the 2027 elections.

This latest claim adds to the tension. Mount Kenya politics stays busy with 2027 in sight. Leaders position themselves early. Gachagua pushes DCP as the main voice for the region. Others, like Wamuchomba, stick with President William Ruto’s side. She has praised government projects in her area. Wamuchomba often speaks about women and youth issues. She wants more focus on real help for people.

Gachagua has not replied to the new accusations yet. His team stayed quiet when asked by reporters. In the past he has said critics twist facts for attention. He focuses on building his party and speaking against high taxes and living costs.

The post spread fast online. Many shared screenshots. Some agreed with Wamuchomba and said leaders should share with supporters. Others called it old fights from the impeachment days. A few asked for evidence before judging. No official complaint has gone to police or ethics bodies so far.

Kenya sees these public rows often between former allies. Money in politics always draws questions. Diaspora funds help many campaigns. Rules on reporting them stay loose. Voters watch to see who delivers on promises.

Wamuchomba keeps active in her constituency. She posts about roads, water and school projects. Gachagua tours the region with party events. Both claim to fight for ordinary people.

This story shows the splits in Mount Kenya after the 2024 changes. Alliances shift quickly. The claims might fade or grow depending on responses. For now, it keeps talk going about trust and money in leadership.
