A fake NGO in Kisumu disappeared with a 1 Million debt. They promised a family some help but later disappeared.

Kisumu woman and her one-year-old son are detained at a facility in Chennai City, India, over pending medical bills amounting to Ksh.1 million after an NGO claimed to foot the bill disappeared.

Lidya Achieng had reportedly taken her son to the MIOT Centre for Children’s Cardiac Care in India for a specialized operation to fill a hole in the toddler’s heart.

Her husband Pacifica Onyango said the operation was to be fully sponsored by a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) called HAWI.

" The NGO took my family to India only to dump them. They are held in a police station. The NGO disappeared and have nothing to help them come home, " the husband explained.
