Kisumu county assembly members clashed today over the county speaker position. According to a section of the MCA's, they wanted the correct speaker to step aside over graft allegations.

The county legislators wanted the incumbent Speaker Onyango Oloo to step aside pending the hearing and decision of the Ksh.2.1 billion Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) mall scandal while Oloo’s allies appeared keen to block the agenda.

In the Kisumu county assembly chambers, Members of County Assembly were scooting to safety while some of their colleagues exchanged blows.

Outside Chambers , youths who had camped there for over five hours chanted, anticipating results from the legislative house.

The fistfight occurred shortly after the deputy speaker had walked in, with the opposing faction in a calculated manner, ejecting him and perceived supporters of the incumbent speaker from the chambers.

And 15 minutes after the House was called to order, Nyalenda MCA Elija Ororo, was sworn in.

Kisumu county Security officers were sent to the Country assembly to restore normal operations. So after the swearing-in, another group of MCA's clashed saying they only recognize Mr Onyango Oloo as the speaker.

Some MCAs were admitted in the Kisumu county hospital with different injuries as resulted in the altercations.
