Coffee and Rice Farmers in Kirinyaga County cry after a swarm of locusts were on Sunday spotted in Mwea.

Isaac Ndung’u, one of the farmers, was one of the first to spot the insects before later alerting his neighbors and fellow farmers in Riandira village as it was reported by Royal Media.

Kirinyaga residents, led by Majority Leader in the County Assembly James Kamau, are now calling on the government to intervene.

Mr. Kamau, who is also the Kerugoya ward MCA, urged Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri to send his team to the area to control the invasion.

The farmers expressed fear that the locusts may destroy their maize, rice, coffee, Tea and Napier grass.
