Public school children have nothing to worry as the will now have their lessons broadcast on TV, radio and YouTube. The announcement comes after they were ordered to stay at home following the coronavirus disaster.


Education CS George Magoha said lessons will begin on March 23, 2020. The 20 Million learners who are at home are said to begin benefiting from the lessons.


 “In partnership with the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), the ministry will broadcast radio programmes daily from Monday to Friday through Radio Taifa and English Service,” he said.


Radio Taifa lessons will run from 10 am to 11 am while English Service from 9:15 am to 12 pm and again from 2 pm to 4 pm.


The lessons will also run on Iftini FM and Transworld in Garissa, Mandera and Wajir counties.


Television lessons will be aired on Edu Channel which is available on the Signet free-to-air channel.


Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) approved digital content is also available on the Kenya Education Cloud through www.kec.ac.ke. Schools with Imlango project, the content is still available on Imlango portal.


“The ministry invites all telecommunication firms and media houses to work in partnership with the government to avail education solutions during this period,” CS Magoha said.


Private schools have already begun online classes for students at home. The school teachers are connected on digital learning tools such as Google Classroom while others are making use of Zoom.


To those in rural areas with no broadcasting network will have to wait until the school re-open.
