Malindi residents on Thursday 16 2020 receive thorough  whippings from General Service Unit at randomly following a case where Malindi base commander was assaulted by Bodaboda riders.

GSU and Kenya Police descended on the Malindi residents beating them at random, forced all businesses across the town to close. However, the residents said they have been beating Mama Mboga who even did not have a clue about the yesterdays incident.

" They have beaten me. Later I'm told yesterday a base commander was roughed up at BP. What does bodaboda do with Mama mboga? The GSU should deal with Bodaboda not beating mothers who are looking for something to eat and for their children, " Kadzo Chengo who is among the vegetable sellers at Kisumu Ndogo said.

The revenge mission comes after the angry boda boda riders on Tuesday stoned police and Kilifi county officers in Malindi as they enforced COVID-19 directives at BP area.

The problem started after traffic police officers, led by base commander George Naibei, began arresting riders for non-compliance on social distancing and one passenger directives.

Two riders resisted arrest and began fighting the officers. One overpowered the base commander and another traffic officer. This encouraged other riders, who knocked the police car with stones as they demanded that the officers leave.

Malindi sub-county police commander Vitalis Otieno said the officers were on patrol to enforce the coronavirus regulations when they found the riders crowding the BP area.
