Kadu-Asili writes to the Registrar of Political Parties claiming a scheme by some Members of Parliament to hijack the party.

In a letter dated January 14, Coast-based Kadu-Asili party leader Gerald Thoya directed the registrar to stop "illegal infringements" to his party.

The party leader wrote to the registrar that the claimed attempted coup in the party had caused mistrust and leadership wrangles.

He claimed that outsiders allied to Deputy President William Ruto had seized Kadu-Asili leadership and changed its constitution to fit their interests original leadership knowledge.

"I wrote to the Registrar of Political Parties after I learnt that some people had invaded our party and amended the constitution, symbols, colours and slogan without our knowledge," he said.

On Saturday, Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa began membership recruitment for Kadu-Asili at her home in Kakuyuni.

"Kadu-Asili is the house. The whistle has blown. We are progressing ahead with the coconut (the party's symbol)," posted Jumwa in her social media account.

The picture shared by Jumwa in her social media networks, however, shows that Kadu-Asili has replaced its colours from green and black to green, white, red and black, like the Kenyan flag.

Thoya now appears to pour cold water on Jumwa's ambitions, accusing her of orchestrating a coup in the party.

"I had to move swiftly and rescue the party from these people masquerading as genuine politicians with the interests of the region at heart," he said.
