Elgeyo Marakwet Three police officers were arrested over the weekend for causing the death of a woman who was a Chang'aa brewer.


The three are involved in attacking the Chang'aa den of the woman, as they tried to arrest her.


The brewer Gladys Jebet Kiptoo who escaped the Police wrath later drowned in a river on April 30, 2020.


Officials called the case unique, which would serve as a warning to the law enforcement agencies.


An investigation was opened by the local police who obtained witness statements and sent the file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution for action.

And on February 3, 2021, the ODPP suggested that constables Nelson Kemboi, Kennedy Bii and Eric Magoma be charged with manslaughter contrary to section 202 as read with section 205 of the penal code.


The three were at the weekend arrested ahead of their planned arraignment.



Section 213 of the Penal Code, Laws of Kenya says a person is considered to have caused the death of another person if by actual or threatened violence he causes that person to perform an act and which causes the death of such person.




Such events are common in public places whereby, whenever law enforcement agencies raid in an operation, people are injured or sometimes die.
