Former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile dies at Nairobi Hospital following a long illness, the family says.

Kalembe died after a short illness.

He is known for his stand-in defending people in the country.

"Not having a degree isn't a big issue to me. You're better off with me who admits I don't have a degree certificate, than a majority of your leaders who've bought theirs on River Road," he said before his death.

"When you came from the bottom as I did, you'll be happier in the village spending time with friends you grew up with than taking photos in aeroplanes to please people you don't know," he said when he was the MP for Kibwezi.

Leaders poured condolences messages over the instant and shocking death of the former leader.

"Mheshimiwa Kalembe Ndile devoted his life to serving the people of Kibwezi. He was a master of equal justice who set an incredible example of service to all. He will best be remembered for his modesty, insights, independent voice and fighting for the rights of the underprivileged, " Deputy President William Ruto said.

" With great shock, I have learnt of the passing of former MP Hon Kalembe Ndile. The people of Kibwezi and our country have lost a charismatic leader with exceptional grassroots mobilization skills who also cared deeply for the underprivileged. May He Rest In Eternal Peace, " ODM Leader Raila Odinga said.

"I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of Kenya’s top political orators, Hon. Kalembe Ndile “Mtoto wa Squatter”. Hon. Ndile was a brave voice of the people. A self-made leader, he was a darling to audiences and us all. A huge loss to our region. Kenya has lost a hero, " Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua said.
