Tobong’u Lore festivals -Turkana’s sixth edition of Tourism and Cultural Festival kicks but in a low key compared to past years.
The yearly event is scheduled to glue cohesion among the pastoral communities living along the Kenya-Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia common borders.
Tobong’u Lore festivals were delayed last year due to the global virus pandemic.
Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa hailed accomplishments gained through the festival.
CS Eugene Wamalwa welcomed the move of Governor Josephat Nanok to continue with the event despite challenges the region is facing, including; hunger and drought.
CS Wamalwa maintained that the Tobong’u Lore annual festival creates cohesion and development among neighbouring communities in the region.
Tobong’u Lore festivals have led to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the governments of Kenya and Uganda. The deal was signed in Moroto, Uganda in 2019.
Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni oversaw the signing of the MOU that settled on developing water projects and road infrastructure to address insecurity caused by conflict over water and pasture.
