Eliud Owalo as CS ICT

In front of the legislature, Eliud Owalo, a candidate for the position of Cabinet Secretary (CS) for information, technology, and the digital economy, has stated his intention to rebrand Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) as Voice of Kenya (VoK).

On Friday, October 20, 2021, when he came before a vetting committee, Owalo said that despite KBC's having a large network across the nation, its productivity falls short of expectations.

"Something must be done with KBC. "It is paradoxical that KBC, with its powerful brand and extensive infrastructure network, is now underperforming in the market," Owalo told the committee.

Additionally, he said that he could not comprehend the reasoning for the parastatal's name change from Voice of Kenya to KBC.

If I take over as the CS of this ministry, Mr Chairman, this will be one of my primary areas of involvement.

"I want to rename KBC in order to revitalize its operations first. I'm not really sure why Kenya Broadcasting Corporation was chosen to replace Voice of Kenya as the organization's name," he said.

He said the media company would be established as the dominant leading service provider, he said, by changing its name to Voice of Kenya.

"By renaming the company Voice of Kenya, KBC would be seen as the industry leader. "You just rename it for simple stuff," he said.

The candidate for CS also said that he wants to use technology to improve the content of the TV station.
