646,612 voters in Bungoma County will choose their senator from among President William Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Moses Wetang'ula

Today, the 646,612 voters in Bungoma County will choose their senator from among President William Ruto, Raila Odinga, and Moses Wetang'ula in what has essentially become a three-horse race.

Mr. Odinga's Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party is attempting to pull off a surprise and wrest the seat away from the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, which is currently dealing with friendly fire as coalition partners Dr. Ruto and Mr. Wetang'ula square off in the race to succeed Mr. Wetang'ula after his election to the new position.

Wafula Wamunyinyi, a former Kanduyi MP, has been nominated by Azimio and would be the first person after Mr. Odinga to hoist the flag for the coalition party.

Except for Sirisia (Jubilee), Webuye East, and Webuye West, which were won by President Ruto's United Democratic Alliance, Mr. Wetang'ula's Ford Kenya Party has historically dominated politics in Bungoma (UDA).

Nelson Jack Wamboka, a resident of Bumula, is a member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K).

To remove Ford Kenya from his position as county executive, Azimio has put up a valiant struggle.

The party sent out important local figures throughout the campaigns, including former Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, Mr. Odinga's deputy in the Orange Democratic Movement, and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, who led door-to-door campaigning.

Wamuyinyi from Azimio will compete against David Wakoli from Ford Kenya and Mwambu Mabonga from UDA.

Additionally running are Mr. Wekesa Robert Sifuna of the Roots Party, Mr. Anjala Aaron Wafula of the Republican Liberty Party, Mr. Wanyonyi Geoffrey Barazah of the National Ordinary People Empowerment Union, Mr. Barasa Elias of the People's Empowerment Party, Mr. Makokha Enock Opara of the People's Empowerment Party, Mr. Masinde Julius of the Independents, and Mr. Munoko Rai (Vibrant Democracy Party).

After sending voting supplies to the nine seats, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) said that all is set to proceed.

9 611 personnel have been trained to supervise the by-election at the 1,373 voting places, according to County Returning Officer Grace Rono.

" The counting of votes will take place at Kibabii University for the Kanduyi constituency, Kapsokwony DEB Primary in Mt. Elgon, and Sirisia Vocational Training Institute in Sirisia, " she added.
