A popular Nairobi preacher is accused of stealing Sh420,000 during the holidays from Stanbic Bank.

Six counts are brought against Pastor Peter Irungu Mwangi, including fabricating a national identification card, communicating a fake document to a banker, robbing a bank, and attempting to rob a bank.

Mwangi impersonated a different person, showed a fake ID to a bank teller, and successfully withdrew Sh420,000 on December 21, according to prosecutor Anne Munyua.

On December 24, he reportedly went back to the bank to make another effort to withdraw Sh435k, but it was unsuccessful.

Mwangi was freed after posting an Sh400,000 cash bond after contesting the accusations.
