Collins Kipleting Serem, a 22-year-old Benga musician who goes by the name Rengstar, is being held because he pretended to be Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to the DCI, Serem deceitfully received an undisclosed sum of money from individuals.

The artist, who lives in Kamplemur Village, Sugoi, was arrested after making a fake Facebook account in the name of the Deputy President and getting money from unsuspecting internet users, saying it was to feed Kenyans who were hungry.

The suspect called on his over 14K followers to band together and raise money for people who are suffering from hunger while publishing a paybill number linked to an account at Eldoret's Standard Chartered bank.

He also promised God's blessings to anyone who would heed the call.

Detectives from the Deputy President's office started looking for the culprit after he was captured in Sugoi, Uasin Gishu county.

The suspect is now being processed for arraignment while being held in jail.
