On Monday, December 12, President William Ruto said that the government will put a lot of money into youth football because it is fully responsive.

In his address at Nyayo stadium during the 59th Jamhuri Day festivities, President Ruto said he would start a bottom-up sports competition with the national government and local governments.

The competition will be available to young people under the age of 19 in an attempt to train them and ideally prepare them to participate in the 2030 World Cup.

The president said that plans were well underway to hold a bottom-up football tournament for under-19 teams from all 47 counties.

Building teams will start at the ward level as part of our Football Vision 2030, working with our governors in each county. While Kenya hosts the 2027 Africa Cup, our goal is to have the Harambee Stars compete in the 2030 World Cup.

He stated that it is time to build Kenyan football from the ground up, all the way to the World Cup.

The Head of State will also reveal a payment scheme called "Talanta Hela" to monetize the entertainment and creative sectors.

"We will rebuild and commercialise our sports and creative industries via the ground-breaking "TALANTA HELA" Plan.

"I've agreed to lead a grassroots football development initiative that will see the federal government collaborate with local governments to make significant investments in young football as part of this strategy," he said.
