On Sunday, March 12, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i participated in a gathering that helped bring together Gusii leaders, elders, church leaders, and opinion shapers.

The discussion took place at the Gusii community centre.

The Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, was in charge of organising this gathering, which took place at the Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) in Karen, Nairobi.

The development of Kisii and Nyamira counties was at the top of the list of topics to be discussed at the conference, which was called in advance of President William Ruto's anticipated trip to the area this month.

Additionally, the need for people and leaders to work together regardless of their political inclinations was highlighted.

The recent ordeals endured by Dr Matiang'i at the hands of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were also discussed, with some politicians holding the unfounded belief that the administration of President Ruto is out to get one of their own for no explicable cause.

Former Members of Parliament Zebedeo Opore and Jimmy Angwenyi, along with elders John Simba and Steve Omenge, were just some of the people who were present at the meeting.

The leaders called out Matiang'i to join in building the region with CS Machogu. The religious leaders pleaded for unity in the area to see development for the community.
