Taiwo "Esepor" Agbaje on GOTV Boxing Night 28 photo

Taiwo "Esepor" Agbaje, the Intercontinental featherweight champion of the World Boxing Federation (WBF), of London, has said that he would devour his Tanzanian opponent, Twalib Tuwa, like Tuwo when the two square off at GOtv Boxing Night 28.

The world-class fight is one of seven that are slated to take place during the boxing event on May 1 at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos' Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Sports Hall.

In a phone conversation on Tuesday, Esepor, who is now rated 39th in global rankings by the WBF and has been crowned the organisation's Best Newcomer of the Year (2022), disparaged his competitor as a softie, similar to the well-known Nigerian dish Tuwo.

"When I discovered that Tuwa had accepted the bout, I chuckled since his name is similar to the Nigerian delicacy Tuwo.

"Tuwo is a light dish that is simple to consume and absorb. Like Tuwo Shinkafa, I have no reason to doubt that Tuwa is the same and would be easily consumed and digested.

"I am rated 39th in the world for a reason, according to the WBF. I was chosen the Best Newcomer of the Year in boxing for 2022 for a reason, too.

"At GOtv Boxing Night 28, where I believe I will be taking a significant step towards the main world championship, Tuwa will be made aware of the reasons. Tuwa will regret engaging in the battle," said Esepor.

In his 15 fights, including two in the UK, the Nigerian is unbeaten and has eight knockout victories. His newest victory came in December of last year when he defeated Richard Pumipic of the Philippines to capture the WBF (intercontinental) featherweight championship.

Azeez Ayobami and Tosin Osaigbovo's eight-round national lightweight challenge match is scheduled for Gotv Boxing Night 28.

A nationwide super featherweight challenge match between Samuel Moses and Michael Adesodun that would go eight rounds is also slated for the evening.

Other fights include a fast-rising cruiserweight boxer, Steven "Freeman" Kadima, facing off against Godwin Ambrose; a six-round national super middleweight challenge fight between Demiji Salami and Samuel Elegbede; a lightweight fight between Emmanuel Abimbola and Prince Lion Nwoye; and an eight-round featherweight fight between Dolapo Omole and Gbolahan Mojeed.

In 50 African nations, DStv and GOtv will broadcast live coverage of GOtv Boxing Night 28, which is sponsored by GOtv.
