Considering allegations of maltreatment of a patient, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja dismissed the entire executive board of the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.
Sakaja announced new selections to take on the board members, which were brought out in a statement by Anastasia Nyalita, a member of the County Health and Wellness Committee.
Dorcas Kemunto is the chairwoman of the hospital's new eight-member management team. Board Secretary Bernard Gituma, Member Christopher Githinji (Mtumishi), MCA, and Member Susan Wanjiru Kamau.
Ronald Ngala Oniango, Jennifer Mumbua Mutunga, Yvonne Peris Alera Makokha, and Fridah Wambui Nduati are other members.
This follows the widely shared video instance of a 26-year-old lady from Njiru who lost her pregnant child while receiving care at the hospital.
The woman and her family visited Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital on Saturday, April 15, around 5:20 p.m., as reported by the county committee member.
The pregnant woman reported having lower stomach discomfort that was becoming worse and spreading to her back.
The woman also lamented that she was unable to sense the baby's frequent motions.
An ultrasound was promptly advised by the on-call physician to confirm the absence of a foetal heartbeat.
The patient and her family were told of the ultrasound findings, which showed that the baby had been pronounced dead, the medical staff and counsellors at Mama Lucy Kibaki.
The patient suffered an intrauterine foetal death (IUFD) at 38 weeks and 5 days, according to the findings of the ultrasound scan.
"At 7:20 pm, a patient who had already gone into labour delivered a mashed (shows skin and soft tissue changes: skin discolouration/darkening, redness, peeling, and breakdown) premature male infant with a birth weight of 2,600 grammes," stated Nyalita.
"The medical staff displayed the infant to the woman and told her that it had died 2–3 days before its birth and her trip to the hospital. Despite all of this, as well as the patient's and the baby's previous circumstances, we believe she might have been managed more effectively.
Bernard Gituma, the facility in charge (formerly the medical superintendent), will now serve in that capacity.
The current Medical Superintendent, Dr Emma Mutio, has been assigned as a specialist at Pumwani Hospital.
"The search for a permanent CEO for Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital and all of our other Level 5 facilities is ongoing and well along."
