On Saturday, Mathira Constituency MP Eric Wamumbi started the very first phase of dowry discussions with Betty Maina, a representative for the Murang'a County Woman.

For "Kuhanda Ithigi," a rite that occurs when the groom notifies his in-laws of his plan to marry, the MP solicited the help of relatives and close friends, including lawmakers Ndindi Nyoro, Babu Owino, Anne Waiguru, Mutahi Kahiga, Sylvanus Osoro, and Gathoni Wamuchomba.

Wamumbi posted several pictures from the occasion, writing, "Together with my close friends and family, we made the initial visit to the parents of Betty N. Maina and the residents of Muran'ga Kuhanda Ithigi, which means that the girl is officially booked."

The procedure was started by elders on both sides and yesterday the initial stages were finished.

The MP will be expected to undertake another important journey to his inlaws when "Kuhanda Ithigi" is finished, preferably for the ruracio—the real dowry-paying ritual.
