Kanini Kega pushes for the withdrawal of Jubilee from Azimio

East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member Kanini Kega

On Tuesday, June 13, East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member Kanini Kega declared that the Jubilee Party has requested to leave the Azimio la Umoja Coalition.

Kega said that the action followed decisions made by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) on Tuesday, June 6.

“Take notice that Jubilee Party has given notice of its resignation from the Deed of Agreement for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition in accordance with Articles 33.1.1 and 2 of the Party Constitution as read in conjunction with Article 22.1 of the Deed of Agreement for Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, dated March 12, 2022,” according to Kanini Kega’s statement.

Kega noted that his choice to leave the Azimio la Umoja coalition deal had received full support from the party’s NEC.

“Take heed of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Jubilee Party meeting of June 6, 2023, determined to step down from the Deed of Agreement for Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition,” the statement said.

The withdrawal request occurred amid a number of disputes between two sections of the party, one headed by Jeremiah Kioni and the other by Kega.

On May 30, Kega declared on Inooro FM that he would host the National Delegates Conference (NDC) of the Jubilee Party in June and ask former President Uhuru Kenyatta to participate in it.

Notwithstanding their falling out, Kega recognised Uhuru’s importance inside the party even though he chose Sanina Chege, a nominated MP, to take over as leader.
