WhatsApp now to be a pay for use

The WhatsApp conversation backup is going to get more expensive soon.

A planned upgrade from WhatsApp will see Google and it discontinue providing conversation backups with an infinite storage quota.

A new upgrade on the Google Play Beta Program for users of WhatsApp's most recent 2.23.24.21 version is introducing a limited storage restriction for the messaging network owned by Meta.

Users of Android smartphones will now be able to use WhatsApp on iOS devices, with a 15GB free Google storage limit that will eventually need payment.

If you decide to back up your WhatsApp conversations on an Android smartphone in the upcoming months, that backup will begin to count against the storage limit associated with your Google account.

In a statement on its Help Center website, WhatsApp states that if you exceed the storage limit, you will need to make room in your Google Account before you can continue backing up files.

According to an article published by Google on Tuesday, the upgrade will be made available to beta testers in December and to the general public in the first half of 2019.

According to WhatsApp, users will see a banner under Settings > Chats > Chat backup thirty days prior to the change taking effect.
