The Department of Criminal Investigation Homicide Detectives are nearing the advanced stages of their investigation into the horrific murder of Miss Rita Waeni, who was only 20 years old when a cold-blooded assassin or killers, who remain unapprehended, ended her life in January 2024.

Rita Waeni, who was a third-year student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, was residing with her aunt at Syokimau in Nairobi before she tragically passed away. She had left her aunt's house at three o'clock in the afternoon on January 13, 2024, and she would never return to that house alive.

Man unmasked after murder

The investigation team has carried out extensive forensic examinations up to this point, documenting the last moments of the dead person and establishing a connection between the potential suspects and her murder.

Additionally, thorough statements made by individuals of interest have been documented, and additional evidence has been acquired from internet platforms in order to guarantee that all leads to Rita's murderer or murderers are used throughout the investigation.

Unfortunately, the DCI Homicide Team is not wasting any resources in its pursuit of the primary suspect in the murder, a man who was only visible on surveillance cameras leading Rita to the scene of her death.

The Homicide Directorate is urging anyone who can identify the guy whose photographs (albeit hazy) appear on this page to come forward and provide information that may aid in his arrest. This is part of the organisation's effort to hasten the delivery of justice to the young soul and to bring closure to the family.

In spite of the fact that his identity is still unknown, it has been established that he initially communicated with the deceased Waeni on October 2, 2023, through an Instagram account that was created under the alias of Carlton Maina (pseudo). He changed this alias several times before removing it immediately after the heinous murder.

The suspect is believed to have stayed at several hotels in Nairobi West in October 2023. Additionally, the suspect is believed to have slept at the Green House Airbnb, located in Roysambu along TRM Drive, between November 7 and 11, 2023.

The fact that he manages to evade detection by surveillance cameras is another indication of his criminal mindset. Not only is he proficient in Swahili and English, but he is also familiar with Nairobi and the areas around it.
