Among those reportedly engaged in today's helicopter mishap in Cheptulei, West Pokot, was KDF chief Francis Omondi Ogolla.
There were eight people on board when the chopper went down, only minutes after taking off from Cheptulei Boys Secondary School, according to sources.
At least five individuals on board the jet have reportedly died, while others have suffered significant injuries or severe burns, according to reports.
Francis Ogolla, head of the KDF, and the other members of the crew involved in the helicopter crash had just departed from a meeting where many high-ranking officials were supposed to review the state of security in the West Pokot area. It happened onlya few minutes after takeoff.
Since then, the KDF and other relevant authorities have cordoned off the area around the crash site, making it inaccessible to residents while they examine the situation and try to determine what caused the tragedy.
The meeting reportedly followed President William Ruto's order to implement steps to put a stop to criminal activity in West Pokot, a threat that has infuriated the locals.
Those who were hurt were reportedly sent to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for expert care, while some with worse injuries were flown to Nairobi by air.
Additionally, senior military personnel are reportedly in State House in Nairobi right now to formally communicate with Chief of Armed Forces President William Ruto.
President Ruto has called an urgent National Security Council meeting at the statehouse.
The military personel who were in the chopper include;
1.Gen.Ogolla
2.Brgd Said
3.Col.Keitany
4.Capt.Sora
5.Sgt.Omondi
6.Capt.Litali
7.Sgt.Nyawira
