President William Ruto gave instructions for all schools to restart on May 13, 2024, during a meeting with leaders from Kajiado and Laikipia counties at State House in Nairobi.

The Kenya Meteorological Department provided this information, stating that the extended heavy rains had stopped.

The president highlighted this information. The day that schools were supposed to reopen was originally set for April 29, 2024; however, as a result of the continuous rain, the date of reopening was pushed back to May 6, 2024.

The president, on the other hand, issued an order to the Ministry of Education, instructing them to postpone the reopening of schools indefinitely in response to the flooding situation caused by the persistent heavy rains.

"In light of the fact that meteorological data paints a bleak picture, the Ministry of Education has been given the directive to postpone the reopening dates of all schools throughout the nation for the second term until further notice."

In addition to continuing for the remainder of this month and possibly even beyond that, the president predicted that the rains would continue to intensify in both length and severity.
