President William Ruto

President William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Education to postpone school reopening dates indefinitely.

This follows the unprecedented floods and landslides that have killed over 210 people and displaced thousands. Schools have been submerged and others swept by raging waters, especially in Nyanza, Nairobi, Western, and Central.

Due to the raging floods, President William Ruto has ordered the postponement of the opening of all public schools until further notice. Monday, May 6th, 2024, was the scheduled reopening date for the schools.

President William Ruto stated, "Transportation has become more difficult due to flooded and damaged roads and bridges."

"Sadly, we have not seen the end of this perilous period, as the situation is expected to escalate.

"The rains will persist in duration and intensity for the remainder of this month and possibly after."
