Even with threats and intimidation, the Citizen TV journalist has remained firm in her bold reporting, calling out government and police excesses during the protests.
Pro-government bloggers leaked Mashirima Kapombe and Yvonne Okwara’s phone numbers from Citizen TV online, and while netizens expected to criticise them for discussing the protest in NAIROBI CBD, the opposite happened.
Mashirima aside, the courage and determination that Gen Z activists have shown is very important; it’s reshaping Kenya’s future. The message was to stay true to the values of journalism and push for meaningful change.
After sharing Mashirima Kapombe’s number, ‘Asalimiwe,’ thirsty Kenyans seduced her, expressed their love for her work, and congratulated her for taking a bold step in reporting the real events.
With Citizen TV on the state radar for its coverage of the protests, Mashirima Kapombe and her colleagues’ mobile contacts were shared with Kenyans to angrily warn them.
However, that didn’t go as expected, as many men took the opportunity to declare their love and admiration for the journalists, especially Mashirima.
“I don’t think this is what they expected… Thank you for all the kind and warm messages. You all give me hope that Kenya will triumph and we will be better together, known and unknown, rich or poor, Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X. God bless you ❤️ and our wonderful country,” Mashirima posted on X.
