Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu reveals that equipment in at least 10 NTSA motor vehicle inspection centres across Kenya is obsolete and no longer operational, necessitating manual inspections.

The affected regional offices include Nakuru, Kericho, Kisumu, Kakamega, Eldoret, Mombasa, Voi, Machakos, Nyeri, and Embu.

The report notes that manual inspections at these centers are not accurate and could result in potentially faulty vehicles receiving clean bills of health.

Relying on manual inspections jeopardises road safety, risking the lives of countless Kenyans with potentially faulty vehicles on our roads.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) announced in 2022 that it was migrating its servers to a new state-of-the-art data centre.

The authority announced that it is in the process of migrating to a new enterprise data centre.

Now that its hardware is outdated, it will only rely on physical inspection, and officials will upload the data to its platform.

According to the NTSA, the new system had to improve efficiency with faster speeds and greater accessibility, particularly in the digital age.
